September is almost with us, where did the time go? I've already had people mentioning that they have begun shopping for Xmas gifts. I did well not to hurt them.

That being said, September is a month that marks the onset of the final quarter of the year, so I want to make sure that we're on track to finish the year with our projects. I'll be taking a few days off this week, and next Monday HQ will be closed so that means I'm 2 days away from 6 days off. But, when I get back next week, I'll begin working with $realitysquared and the rest of the CEA Team on what I think you will agree is a much needed review of all our standards and policies associated with Mature Content.

I've also been working on a project which will provide creative grants for deviants. This is something that I am really proud to be part of and I'm very much looking forward to giving you all more details in a few weeks.

If you are a comic book artist, then you should head on over to this journal. It's an exciting opportunity!

One last thing. A simple request, really. If you have a gripe, a frustration or believe that you are being treated unfairly by another deviant, a volunteer or staff member -- or deviantART in general -- please don't instantly break out into full on personal attacks or threats against anyone. I'll even give you a call if you feel that it will help. It's my role as Director of Community Operations to ensure that things are running as smoothly as possible within the community. It's also my job to listen, and ensure that your voice is heard by all departments. This means that I work closely with other departments such as Community Relations, devious Technology, Creative and Advertising on a daily basis.

With a BA in Community Education, I'm no stranger to researching and analysing the sociological and psychological behaviour of people joining to form and sustain communities. I find it fascinating in both the physical and virtual worlds.

deviantART's Community Operations Department encompasses the Help Desk, Copyright & Etiquette Administration and Message Network Administration (MN@). These 3 teams are dedicated to providing a high standard of community development, encouraging innovative and creative opportunities within the community.

Our department drives an environment where deviants can come together and be empowered within, and by, the community. We believe that community development is not a department -- it's an approach which helps people to recognise and develop their ability to reach their potential. By providing this organised, motivated, accountable and effective department, we are leading the way for deviants to continue participating in a way which they feel listened to, valued and inspired.
