Artist's Comments

So light my way
And wish me sunny days
A wish will be reborn to a perfect world
So dry your tears
And tear up all your fears
A wish will be reborn to a perfect world

Critiques

:iconoilsoaked:
I'll preface this, like many others, that I'm not a huge fan of dictating stars; I feel silly and pompous in doing so.

Whereas I cannot really critique your technique and tell you what is absolutely and concretely better, you will be receiving my personal opinion in full.

I find this piece to be very simple in essence, in comparison to other pieces I've seen from you. I thoroughly enjoy the drab color palette you've chosen; I think the burnt umbers, rusts and murky greens provide an interesting complement to the very vital symbolism that is a tree filled with leaves. Where many times this color palette, I've found, would reflect a bare or dying tree, you've elected to go the other way which changes the scope of things drastically.

I feel that the wispy bits are a little tacked on, and almost a little out of place. A bit like you were looking at the piece saying to yourself, "Hmm. Needs a like je ne sais quois" and stuck them on. I do like the simplicity of them; there isn't a big fandango of swirls and hallelujahs, but at the same time, I wonder if the piece wouldn't stand alone if they were a little dimmer, or not there at all? That may just be taste, though.

I enjoy how the vertical patterning in the "ground" complements the horizontal sweeping of the "sky". I also very much like the asymmetry of not splitting the canvas precisely in half. It creates a bit of, what I think is, desired tension, to keep the eye interested. Again, this may be a matter of taste, but I think that the piece might benefit from this slanted ground being a little higher or a little lower. I think that despite the slant provided to break it up, it could be more dynamic by lessening the near 50/50 break to about a 60/40 on either end.

I hope this makes sense. All in all a very pretty and soothing piece. :)

Love the art, before yourself.

Really nice work, Fiona. The textures look great and the warm colours are very appealing. Kind of reminds me of an autumn scene, yet a magical one at that.

The type of thing I'd probably have on my wall as canvas art.

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.

It's a very musical picture, almost audible.

Good to see you are starting off your weekend with some time to create :)

What draws me to this piece is the use of the texture. Although this idea (or stock) has been used many times, it still has its own originality. The way you blended the texture and the landscape is just incredible. The abstract lines from the trees are very symbolical, seems to have some meanings. Great work. :)

I absolutely adore the slanted division of this piece, the imperfect balance of darkness and strange colour makes for a wonderful combination.

Strange grace and mystery in broad daylight; another world seething beneath our familiar one, equal parts magical and troubling...
