Firstly, that is indeed unique and a different approach than I've seen used before with those types of shells..which I believe is called a Nautilus.
What I find most interesting is the way you've draped the textures over the shell, perhaps under it as well, is that clear water seems to be flowing From the shell's many chambers, most notibly on the top and bottom Right.

That gives it much life and soothes the boldness is the shell itsself by drawing the eyes in.
Excellent touch, purposely done or incidentaly.
