Artist's Comments

I received a gorgeous bouquet of flowers on Friday from my beloved colleagues, who really are like family to me. Couldn't resist taking some shots of the amazing colours and textures.

Critiques

:iconmattiello:
This will probably be the first critique that I have done -- while using this module -- where I will only have good things to say about the artist's piece.

So, here I go.

I like the contrast of colors between the pistils and petals. The largest pistil that is directly in the middle of this piece is somewhat darker than the other pistils, and it draws the viewer's attention to the petals.

You captured the petals perfectly as well. They're so tangible, and that can be somewhat hard to do when taking a macro of a flower.

All of this was possible because of the lighting you used. However you did it is beyond me, because I've tried. It's either too dark or too bright, so I have a hard time capturing the detail that you've captured here.

Wonderful job! You should be proud of it in my opinion.

Oh, and btw, your originality only suffered because shooting flowers is such an overdone shot. It's kind of like doing Friday the 13th over and over again...:shakefist:

Vision: 4 stars

Minimalism, bold colours and soft textures characterise "velvet morning" by $chix0r. In my opinion, the artist has succeeded in capturing "the amazing colours and textures."

Originality: 4 stars

I can't say a lot about this, because macros of flowers are widely done. But I should remind the reader that the originality is to be found in the details. For this reason I recommend full view.

Technique: 4.5 stars

Having seen the original, and having read some of the comments posted below, I can only agree with the deviants who suggested that she improve it by tweaking the contrast. I love the angle from which this was shot: to the viewer, it's like looking directly into the flower.

Impact: 4.5 stars

I can only repeat what I wrote in the "Vision" section, that in my opinion the artist has succeeded in capturing "the amazing colours and textures." It's a very pleasant piece to look at.

Very nice. It could benefit from a slight increase of contrast.:)

Beautiful. Stunning contrast between the two colours. Love it.

I love the view and composure, but maybe try keeping the natural colours more than added ones. No matter, good job!

I didn't add any colours at all, just tweaked the contrast a bit

very nice, you seem to carry on experiments with contrast.

I especially like the complementary contrast between the purple and green parts
