So, I finally managed to see Porcupine Tree, but it didn't go down without some drama. The original support band cancelled all their gigs, and unknown to us this meant that the PT gig was starting earlier than anticipated. We were in the pub roughly 3 doors away from the venue and figured that since the doors opened at 7pm, PT wouldn't be on any earlier than around 8.30-ish. Oh how wrong could we be...

As we went up the stairs into the venue at 8pm, I could already hear Wilson belting out "drawing the line", which meant we had missed the first 4.5 tracks of The Incident. Gutted. We ended up in the very back row, surrounded by Bill Bailey look-alikes. The accoustics were great and the band sounded fab, and you can check out the set list here. Highlights for me were stars die, normal and time flies. The gig was all over by 10pm and of course we just had to go back to the bar.

Conclusions: Wilson has the swooshiest hair on the planet. Wes is a phenomenal guitarist. I need to get to a "normal" PT gig where they don't play an album in it's entirety before I make further conclusions ;)

Oh yeah...if you're a PT fan, check out #PorcupineTree If you're a fan of artwork inspired by music, a photographer who shoots gigs etc - check out #digitaljunkies

Anyways! Back to srs bsns.

If you aren't already, hop on over and stick #communityops to your devwatch. I'll be making a pretty important update from our group later on today, and you won't want to miss it!

As you can imagine, coming back after 3 days off means 3 days of backlog to clear so if you are waiting for a response to an email, note or comment - hang in there, I'll get to you. If you've sent me Seniority suggestions -- thanks -- I've almost finalised the list and there will be around 30 shiny new ticks handed out next week.

How are you all liking groups? I have to say it's a great feeling going through group apps and watching the groups turn live. We're going as fast as we can to approve them so please have patience. I'd love to hear about your favourite groups so far :)

Almost there

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 9, 2009, 5:04 AM

So, today is my last day at work until Tuesday 15th December. In around 48 hours, I'll be on my way to see Porcupine Tree in Glasgow. There are no words to describe how excited I am, the anticipation of actually hearing them live is quite the rush. Despite being a massive fan, I've never managed to make it to any of their gigs before -- and I'm quite the nervous virgin!

There's been a lot of talk going on about the current tour. Porcupine Tree's management are taking a very strict stance against the use of cameras at the gig, and there's apparently signs up at every venue detailing that anyone who is caught using any cameras or camera phones will be ejected from the premises. I'm not too amused at that. It's part of the whole gig experience to capture the moment, don't you think? It's not like people make a living from selling pictures taken on crappy camera phones at gigs and I really don't see how it comes over as anything more than bullshit. I know people like `kyza and `contains-mild-peril do make a living from taking professional shots at gigs -- and I'd still happily pay for their work. I actually have one of Kylie's shots of Steve Wilson up on my wall right now.

Anyways, I'll be back on Tuesday next week, maybe with a photo or two ;P Meantime, I'll leave you with one of my fave songs from PT, and hope that it's the last song I hear them play on Friday!

Journal Takeover - innocencedied2nite

 PROJECT-PAY-FORWARD

deviantART thrives on the aspects of giving help to those in need. It is what makes this community unlike any other on the web. We are not just artists, we are advocates, activists, promoters and trailblazers. Above all, we are friends.

We all know of deviants who need help from time to time. Sometimes it is in a monetary fashion- Like donations for causes, paying for a bill here and there or something else.

Other times it is a simple hug, a friendly hello, a newbie who needs a guide or the promotion of an event.
And who doesn't know of someone offering or looking for commissions?
Need advice on your work? A critique perhaps?

That is what =Project-Pay-Forward aims to do. Help those in need, however and whenever possible. We all have our talents, and we all have things we would like help with. This project hopes to bring together the two and get things done.

But this is not a one person job. It takes a community effort. So I'm appealing to people who are willing to give of their time, effort and heart to help those in need. After all, that's what this community is all about.

:writersblock: As a writer in the community, I often wonder how to get more involved in the lit areas around here. We have clubs, contests and projects. But what else can we do? So I pose the question- What more can we do for and in the community? What would you, who are writers, like to see open and available to you?

World AIDS Day brought about some lovely works. Here are a few from some friends of mine. Enjoy!

I stood there as the rain poured from what some might call the heavens. Everyone else had taken shelter but I remained. I could not feel the rain beating down on my shoulders and head or my clothes and hair clinging to my face and body. My mind was far off in the past, back to the day that changed our lives. The day my sister found out she had HIV/AIDS.
Six years ago we sat around the kitchen table. The ticking of the clock resounded in my head, though not as loud as my heartbeat, as we waited for the mail to come, with the results of my sister's test. I wondered how she could be so clam, since I and my parents could barely breat

Hope everyone's week is rockin' and a big thanks to $chix0r for being a sweetie and letting me use her journal. :huggle:

A little request

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 6, 2009, 5:36 AM

Now I'm not one to advocate songs by Take That, but if those of you who have Group Applications in could have a little patience that would be very much appreciated ;)

We're working as quickly as we can to get these processed -- which has included working over the weekend to review your applications. So please don't think that we are ignoring you. Some applications require verifying details which include awaiting on other deviants responding to requests - so it's not just a simple process.

If you've cancelled your application and resubmitted it again -- then go give yourself a good spanking, because you're just adding to the delay. We can see that some which were already partially processed and resubmitted - which means all the work we put in before has now gone to waste and your application has to start over again.

So, word of the day - PATIENCE. You've waited this long, just wait a wee while longer ;)

The excitement keeps on coming

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 4, 2009, 5:41 AM

As if the whole Groups launching to Beta wasn't enough to get you going, take a look at what popped into my inbox this morning.

I'm sure you are all familiar with Imagine Publishing, as they bring us awesome mags such as Advanced Photoshop, Photoshop Creative, Digital Photographer, etc. Their latest addition to must-have reading is the exciting new venture called "Digital Artist", which is available on the shelves now.

A few weeks ago, I was asked if I would be interested in writing a monthly deviantART column for Digital Artist, focussing on community trends, rising stars and featuring some of the top digital art in our galleries. Of course my answer was a resounding HELL YEAH!! And this is the very first edition.

Next month's features are already being worked on, and I'm looking forward to featuring many deviant digital artists over the coming months! Watch this space for more details :)
